Making Wise Therapeutic Choices

“Making Wise Therapeutic Choices”

The April 23rd Teleseminar is now over…

let us know how you found it.

Leave Your Comment and/or Lingering Questions here.

Dr. Carole and I (Dr. Shrinklady) just presented the teleseminar “Making Wise Therapeutic Choices”. We covered 18 questions related to people’s actual experiences in psychotherapy, and it was all completely FREE.

Among the topics:

  • How to feel safe in therapy.
  • What if your therapist is afraid of therapeutic touch?
  • Should therapists create transference on purpose?
  • What to do when your therapist says nothing.
  • When your therapist has poor boundaries.
  • Is the right therapist always the right therapist?
  • Is becoming a therapist a good idea?
  • Are flashbacks permanent and how do I stop them?
  • What to do when you’re making your therapist sleepy.
  • How to use body-based strategies when your therapist isn’t au courant.

If you missed the Teleseminar, be sure to watch your emails for the link to the replay.

But note: the replay will be taken down soon, so be sure to set aside the time to listen.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Sandra sent this in after the seminar so I’ve added it here:

    Dear Shrinklady,
There is always so much to learn from your Teleseminars. It is amazing that in almost every question there is something that pertains to problems, worries, insecurities which I have. I am sure a great many people must surely feel the same way. It is always such a fantastic learning time, and your answers provided more than a few sort of Aha moments for me.
This Teleseminar was a lovely long one too, and thank you to both you and Dr Carole.

    Dear Suzanne and Carole,

I would just like to say thank you both for the wonderful teleseminar. I found it so helpful.

It is so go to hear others experience of therapy, and to know I’m not alone. I have been in trauma therapy for a couple of years now. I noticed by the end of our sessions my therapist looks exhausted. It was only after listening to you explain about dissociation that I realised it’s not that I am boring my therapist to tears, but rather she is just picking up on my energy(I know I’m chronically dissociated and am working on it). 🙂

Therapy can be such a lonely journey, not many people have experience of it so it’s not something you can often sit with friends and talk about. So this really helped. I only found your website recently and have been working my way through it and find it one of the most useful resources I’ve come across to date so thank you.

    Suzanne and Carol,

Thank you so much for your teleseminars. They are always helpful and full of knowledge, and I’m thankful for the time you’ve taken to put them together. I have a question that has really been bothering me…I hope it’s okay to ask? My biggest question involves intimacy and closeness with my therapist. I have been in therapy for 2 years, 1 of those with my current therapist. I really like my therapist and really respect her both as a person and in her profession, but I don’t know if I feel close to her. Or, at least as close as I thought I’d feel after a year. I still have trouble telling her some things, even fairly simple things. I think I have problems feeling close to other people as well, but I feel defective that I have trouble recognizing if I feel close to my therapist. Am I doing something wrong? I’m scared to talk about this with my therapist.

    Hi Suzanne [and hi Carole]

Thanks ever so much for the teleseminar the other day, I found it extremely valuable – missed the first part of it owing to the time zone where I am being 6am though! So would be really appreciated if later ones could be at a slightly later hour it’s a very early start especially on a Sunday in the midst of Easter holidays! That’s how much I valued it though that my household got up with me to help me be part of it. Cheers.

    Hello Shinklady and Suzanne,

I’m a 48 year old man and I’ve struggled with my childhood abandonment issues which included depression as well. I did not know why I struggled in my relationships. One day I began to search on-line for answers because thing just didn’t make sense. i.e. I would walk away or threaten to leave the relationship when issues arised which was my way of coping with the situation. If you are dealing with an insecure person in return their issues will be triggered and the world wind of issues start. I did not understand or realize my the character of my issues. I’m sorry for the lives of those whom I may have affected. I just want to THANK YOU for your website! The information has been extremly helpful to me. I had my first Therapy session last week and i wasn’t sure if I had the correct Therapist. If there is away that we can connect I would be interested.

    Thanks,
    Dwayne
